Muccia Prada opens up a universe of minimalism with a maximal attention to shapes and colors. Prada’s highly anticipated first menswear collection in a partnership with co-creative director Raf Simons, is just a second step in a synergy that is just over 6 months old.
The designer duo seeks to morph the brand with androgynous energy and chic aesthetics. Simons rejoins the Prada Group after being recruited for Jil Sander label in 2005, at the time
owned by the Group. Both Simons and Prada have collaborated with the German footwear giant Adidas.
And most recently Simmons stepped down as creative director of Calvin Klein. After seven years as creative director for the North German label Jil
Sander, Simons would replace John Galliano as creative director at the Maison Dior, (2012–2015). Simons’ Dior was remem- bered for voluminous couture lines, incidentally similar to
outlines in the new Prada drop-shouldered overcoats and
flight jackets, over tights; seemingly unconventional to Prada yet attachable to the brand’s aesthetics.
